Storm Gertrude is to hit LARNE

AMBER (Warning 1) has been updated to include all coastal areas of NI.

Storm Gertrude is expected to hit the the UK & Ireland during the earl
y hours of Friday and into Friday morning.

Winds are expected to pick up around 1am, damaging wind gusts are possible and are giving cause for concern. Gusts of up to 70mph are likely widely across the country even over populated areas and up to 80mph in exposed areas, coastal areas and over higher ground.

Sea conditions will be exceptional, with Violent storm 11 sea conditions forecast this is just one level down from Hurricane force. Wave heights of up to 48 Feet are expected to the west, large waves are expected to hit all coastal areas which may lead to coastal flooding due to waves over topping sea defenses along with damage to the coast line eg – Sea walls, coastal roads etc

The public are advised to expect :-
Disruption to travel – especially to ferry services and air travel.12573786_967407230006275_5620495329784936827_n Difficult driving conditions, risk of down trees & power lines and debris on road.
Possible widespread interruptions to power supplies.
Possible structural damage to property.
Coastal flooding and possible damage

Avoid all coastal areas such as beach & sea fronts, promenades and coastal roads.
be aware of difficult driving conditions, possible road closures, especially bridges.
Be prepared for interruptions to power supplies.
