Larne will be glowing with festive cheer on Friday 17 November as Santa Claus himself arrives to switch on the Christmas tree lights with help from the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Paul Reid.
Local schools and groups have been busy making beautiful lanterns for a magical parade with fantastic floats and Christmas characters.
The parade will leave Narrowguage Road around 6.40pm and will proceed along Quay Street to Main Street before arriving at Broadway. The procession with pause briefly to allow Santa and the Mayor to flick the switch and light up the Christmas tree.
At Broadway Plaza, Bel Canto will be entertaining the crowds from 5.45pm, followed by Larne Music Yard at 6.25pm. There will be plenty of street performers to keep the whole family entertained in the area until Santa arrives.
Members of the public are encouraged to gather on the parade route to cheer on Santa in his horse drawn carriage, and view the lantern parade.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Cllr Paul Reid said, “I am looking forward to such a fantastic, festive event in my hometown of Larne. It will be an honour to switch on the lights kick-starting the Christmas season. This special event draws in families from across our Borough and with the local shops offering a range of ideal Christmas gifts, I’m inviting all our residents to ‘Find Your Christmas’ in Larne and Mid and East Antrim as a whole this festive season.”
Santa will continue along Main Street, Lower Cross Street and back to Narrowguage Road, allowing plenty of opportunity for everyone to see all the schools and groups participating in this year’s parade.
Please note a section of Narrowguage Road car park will be closed in advance of this event.
