Chairman’s update – Friday 12th April 2019

WHAT a day and night we enjoyed last Saturday as the Bluefin Sports Championship trophy was handed over at Inver Park.

It was a day that we wanted to be special and I think it was that, and even more. Lots of people put work into the planning of the day and it was great to see how smoothly it ran. The one thing we couldn’t organise was in place as well – the good weather. The guys there from Sky Sports News and BBC got some fantastic coverage.

The players and management have worked so hard all season and it was such a joy to see them celebrate and enjoy their day, surrounded by family and loved ones. As usual, you, the supporters, turned up in fantastic numbers and that added to the spectacle. Kenny Bruce was also in attendance and, typical of the man’s humility, didn’t want to come on to the pitch for the celebrations, but instead spent it with his family in the Agnew Lounge.

I know that NIFL and the sponsors also enjoyed the day and we’re glad this was the case, hopefully it reflected well on the league and football in this country in general. Days like that certainly whets your appetite for more of them.

We have three games remaining, starting with tomorrow’s trip to Dundela and the management have made it quite clear that they will target maximum points in those games. We want a strong finish to what has been a fantastic league campaign so far. We went to Wilgar Park earlier in the season and the abiding memory of that day was how hard we had to work to get a 2-0 win. The Duns are finishing their own campaign strongly and have done fantastically well in their first season back in the Championship.

During the week, it was great to see such a positive response to the supporters’ meeting called by our Supporters Liaison Officers, Callum McIlroy & Richard Todd, and we see that as the first step of working closely with Callum and Richard.

They have some very special plans for our final remaining home game of the season, against the Welders a week tomorrow, and we’ll be releasing details of that very soon. The plans will, of course, include our very special guest the Championship trophy, so I’d encourage you to turn out in your numbers that day for the last match at Inver this season.

Thank you once again for your support.

Regards,

Gareth
